Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin was among the large attendance at the funeral in Dublin today of Emer Í Chuív, last surviving daughter of former taoiseach and president Eamon de Valera.

Her son, Fianna Fáil deputy leader Éamon Ó Cuív, led the mourners from the extended Ó Cuív and de Valera families.

Another son, Fr Shan Ó Cuív, was the chief celebrant at the funeral Mass at St Mary’s Church, Haddington Road, which was followed by burial in Glasnevin cemetery.

Paying tribute to his mother, Fr Ó Cuív recalled that she had received her first Holy Communion in the same church decades ago.
