Two Moroccan soldiers who drum they may be tortured and even executed if sent back home have been given permission to process applications for refugee status in this country, the High Court has been told.
Last week the court was informed the two men arrived in Cork as stowaways on a cattle ship on January 5th. They had been refused asylum then. A solicitor for the two men said he believed they volunteered for service in the Royal Moroccan Army in 1993 and they had informed him that because of ill treatment and abuse they deserted last December and fled to Spain.
The Irish authorities have been informed the Spanish authorities are not willing to allow them to return to Spain to process their application for refugee status in that country.
