More than 30 people were taken to hospital today after a crowded Tube train smashed into a tunnel wall when it derailed in central London.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said terrorism was not the suspected cause of the crash at Chancery Lane station.
He said: "It's a derailment, being dealt with by British Transport Police. I think we would have been informed if terrorism was suspected."
Shocked passengers who were on board the Central Line train spoke of flying glass, smoke and panic.
Fleets of ambulances surrounded the exit to the station as a major emergency services operation swung into action following the incident, which occurred at around 1.50pm.
A London Underground spokeswoman said it was believed all 800 passengers had been taken off the train and casualties had been taken to three nearby hospitals, but the Fire Brigade said crews were still searching the scene.
The underground spokeswoman said: "As it approached the station the rear three to four cars were derailed."
She said: "There were no other trains involved," and added that "there was no fire, there was a lot of dust."
