Four rowers who between them brought home three titles from the 2001 World Championships in Lucerne last month were praised by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Dr McDaid, yesterday.
At a reception at the new stand in Croke Park, the Minister said he wanted to honour the magnificent achievements of Sinead Jennings, Sam Lynch, Tony O'Connor and Gearoid Towey, their coaches and support teams for three world championship titles.
Sam Lynch won a gold medal in the lightweight single sculls, Tony O'Connor and Gearoid Towey won gold in the lightweight pair and Sinead Jennings won gold, the first rowing title won by an Irishwoman.
