MINISTER FOR Social Protection Joan Burton was at Rutland national school in Dublin yesterday to launch A Good Practice Guide for Breakfast Clubs.
The initiative was developed by Healthy Food for All and funded by the Kellogg corporate citizenship fund and the Kellogg Company of Ireland.
Ms Burton praised the healthy-eating initiative on which the department spent €35 million a year. Project co-ordinator of Healthy Food for All Sinéad Keenan, said: “We need to help schools to create healthy and supportive environments to foster the development of healthy eating behaviours at a young age.”
The Breakfast Club began in the Rutland school in 1995 and is funded by the department. Breakfast is open for pupils from 8.30am- 8.45am daily and children can have cereal, porridge, fruit and juice.
