Met Éireann has forecast a temporary break in the weather with the freezing temperatures and snow showers of the past two days giving way to warmer weather today.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise during the day today, and any remaining snow today will be gone by night time.

However, the weather outlook for the weekend is not good,  with widespread sharp ground frost and some icy patches expected tomorrow night.

Driving conditions remain hazardous in parts this monrning, with Wicklow and south Dublin being worst affected. The Sally Gap in the Wicklow mountains remains impassable due to heavy snow.

The N7 is said to be extremely icy from Portlaoise to Dublin, while icy patches are also making roads dangerous in Cavan and Donegal.

Due to poor road conditions, Dublin Bus's 44B service is not operating as far as Glencullen but it is running as far as Enniskerry. Dart and rail services are running as normal and all Irish Ferries and Stena Line sailings are running according to schedule.

Tomorrow morning will start warm with temperatures of 8 to 9 degrees, although it will get colder during the day.

Temperatures dipped to minus 3 degrees in places on Tuesday night leading to heavy falls of snow, particularly along the east, north and northwest coasts.

Some roads in Donegal and Wicklow remained closed for much of yesterday morning.

Saturday will remain rather cold but dry, with widespread sharp to severe ground frost expected. More frost is expected on Sunday night and Monday will continue largely dry, although cloudier conditions are likely to develop.

Daytime temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be about 5 to 6 degrees; Saturday will be breezy, but Sunday will be calm, making the weather feel milder. Night time temperatures will stay close to freezing,  well below normal.
