Ireland's Paul McKee has been awarded a bronze medal for his showing in today's World Indoor Championship 400m final following an after-race appeal by the Irish team.

McKee ran a new national record - having broke the previous record in yesterday's semi-final - of 45.99 to cross the line in precisely the same time as third placed Jamie Baulch of Great Britain. However, the Irish athlete was placed fourth and missed out on the medal ceremony.

But following an appeal by the Irish management, McKee has been made joint bronze medalist.

He was due to collect his prize in a personal ceremony later this evening as the original ceremony took place - without him - shortly after the race. However, officials have now decided to restage the full prize giving.

American Tyree Washington won gold in a time of 45.34. Daniel Caines of Great Britain took the silver medal in 45.43.

Ireland's David McCarthy broke his personal best to finish fifth in a time of 46.61.
