The young woman who took legal action against the North-Western Health Board and her family GP has described the report as "stating the obvious".

Ms Sophia McColgan said in a statement: "I have received a copy of the report and you will appreciate that it is very difficult for me to be objective about this entire matter.

"The report does little more than state the obvious in that it confirms what I and my brothers at all times alleged and which was so long denied and hidden by the health board. It is unfortunate that while the report lays the blame for what happened and how the system failed me and my family, it does not identify individual personnel, and I assume no action will be taken against any individual.

"The final chapter in this saga is that those people who permitted and indirectly caused so much suffering will have to live with their own consciences."
