A man charged with murdering two British soldiers in a dissident terrorist attack in March has been granted bail by Belfast High Court today.

Sapper Mark Quinsey, along with Sapper Patrick Azimkar were killed on March 7th as they took delivery of pizzas in front of the main gates of the Massareene Barracks in Antrim. The Real IRA claimed responsibility for shooting.

Brian Shivers from Magherafelt, Co Derry, was today granted bail by Justice Coughlan as the judge said in court today he was not satisfied with the medical care Mr Shivers (44) has received in jail since being charged with the murder on July 23rd.

The man, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, denies the murder charge.

Lawyers for Ms Shivers said he had been hospitalised earlier this month as a result of receiving inadequate medical treatment in jail and his long-term health was at risk while he remained in custody.

The judge said although he had concerns about the seriousness of the case and the risk of reoffending he was prepared to grant bail.

Mr Shivers was charged with the murders after police said they found a full DNA profile of him on two matchsticks in a partially burned-out car abandoned seven miles from the scene of the murders.

One other person, Colin Duffy, is also charged with murdering the soldiers. Mr Duffy has been remanded in custody.
