Manufacturing output prices up 2.9% in the year

Year on year, the index rose by 2.9% compared with an annual increase of 3.1% in March 2001.

Factory gate prices increased by 0.5% in April 2001 to bring the overall Manufacturing Output Price Index to 131.5, according to figures released this afternoon by the Central Statistics Office(CSO).

Year on year, the index rose by 2.9% compared with an annual increase of 3.1% in March 2001.

The index for home sales increased by 0.1% and the index for export sales increased by 0.9% in the month.

Contributing to the monthly change were increases in drink (+2.0%), electrical engineering (+1.6%), pharmaceuticals and other chemical products (incl. man made fibres) (+1.0%).The slaughtering, preparing and preserving of meat have also risen (+0.8%).

Also contributing to the annual change were increases in dairy products(+6.3%), pharmaceuticals and other chemical products (incl. man made fibres) (+2.9%),

The monthly price index for Mining, quarrying and turf increased by 0.9%.

Breaking down wholesale price changes by sector of use shows that building and construction material prices increased by 0.5% in April 2001 and increased by 5.7% in the year since April 2000.

Prices of capital goods increased by 0.6% in April 2001 and increased by 7.6% in the year since April 2000.

The price of Energy products decreased by 0.2% in April 2001 and decreased by 1.1% in the year since April 2000.

Petroleum fuels also decreased by 0.4% in April 2001 and year on year this index dropped by 1.9%.
