A company manager in a branch of a leading wholesale cash and carry company was returned for trial on a false pretences charge when he appeared at Dun Laoghaire Court yesterday.

Mr Brendan O'Leary (49), of Eillarney Heights, Bray, Co Wicklow, was accused of obtaining a Bush television, valued at £482, from Mr Shay Graham, an employee of Musgraves cash and carry, Sallynoggin, on October 26th, by falsely pretending that a Sony video camcorder, valued £544, was his property.

Mr O'Leary's solicitor, Mr John Fitzsimons, yesterday refused the offer of Judge Brian Eirby to hear the case on a plea of guilty from Mr O'Leary in Dun Laoghaire Court. Judge Kirby sent the defendant forward for trial to Dublin Circuits Court. He remanded Mr O'Leary on £100 personal bail.
