A MAN who sexually assaulted a woman 10 years ago after telling her he wanted to be with her and dragging her down a side road has been given a suspended jail sentence.
Cedric Parsillion (35), Drumcondra Road Lower, Dublin 9, originally from Bordeaux, France, admitted the offence but disputed the victim’s version of events.
A bench warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to appear for his trial in February 2002 and it was executed only in December 2010 after Parsillion was arrested having committed a similar offence.
He was remanded in custody but released on bail in January 2011 after he pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sexually assaulting the woman on October 6th, 2001.
Det Garda Martin McInerney told Lisa Dempsey, prosecuting, that a week after the attack the woman was in her local pub with her boyfriend when Parsillion walked in. He stood behind her and winked and smiled at her before moving down the bar to get a drink.
The woman rang the Garda immediately but three hours later they had not responded. Parsillion got up to leave so she approached him and hit him with a bottle in an effort to keep him in the pub.
The staff then called the Garda and Parsillion was arrested.
Judge Hogan said the victim was assaulted at night and taken down a side road, “so he was endeavouring to exercise some form of control”. He said the reports supplied by the Probation Service showed Parsillion was now addressing his issues. The judge imposed a suspended sentence of three years and ordered Parsillion undergo an alcohol treatment programme and carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the community.
