A pub owner and two patrons were each remanded in custody by a judge yesterday until a further sitting tomorrow when they appeared at Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, District Court on charges arising from an early morning incident in which another man was stripped naked in a bar - and a yard brush and water used to wash him.

Martin McGahon, of the Stables Enterprises Bar at Main Street, Carrickmacross, appeared with Frank Lambe, Shercock, Carrickmacross, and Noel Hand, Drumconrath Road, Carrickmacross, on charges arising from the incident.

Mr Oliver O'Hanlon, Cuchullain Terrace, Carrickmacross, told Judge Flann Brennan he was drinking in the bar around 4 a.m. when grabbed by Lambe and Hand and stripped of his clothing before they used the brush and water on him.

Mr O'Hanlon was walking home naked when he was intercepted by the gardai.
