A man was shot dead in north Belfast last night.
The fatal shooting may have been linked to a fall-out over drugs.
Danny McKay (36) was hit several times — at least once in the face — by a gunman who fired from a hijacked car which was later found burned out in the west of the city.
The shooting happened in the Longlands Road area of Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, last night.
Police have made no comment about the attack, but local people believe Mr McKay may have been targeted because of a row over drugs, possibly involving dissident republicans.
People in the area at the time claimed a number of children were standing only yards away when a gunman opened fire.
Sinn Féin councillor Gerry O’Reilly said people were left in a state of shock.
He added: “Those responsible have shown an absolute disregard for the local community. It was a reckless and dangerous action.”
