The body of a pensioner from Ballinode, Co Monaghan, was found in a river on Sunday evening. Mr Thomas Flanagan (73), of Annyaulty, Ballinode, had left home to walk his dog at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The dog returned on its own several hours later and a search was begun by family and neighbours. Mr Flanagan's son later found his body.
