The body of a man was found in a New Ross town house yesterday evening after neighbours had alerted gardaí.

Neighbours on the housing estate of Charlton Hill in the town became concerned about his welfare after he had not been seen for some time.

Having forced open the front door of the house to get in, gardaí found the man lying dead inside the front room.

Investigating gardaí believe the body may have lain there for several weeks.

However, gardaí, who have ruled out foul play, will not be able to release the name of the man until relatives have been informed.

It is not yet known if he is from the town.

He is believed to have been a middle-aged man who lived alone.
