Gardaí have begun an investigation after the body of a man, believed to be the victim of a shooting, was discovered in north Dublin this afternoon.

The unidentified body was found near Belcamp Lane, Coolock in north Dublin at about 4pm by a member of the public. It is understood he suffered a number of gunshot wounds to the head.
The man is believed to have been in his 20s and from the Darndale area.

The scene was preserved for technical examination. A post mortem will be carried out tomorrow.
