Man remanded over garda death

A man has been remanded in custody charged in connection with the death of a garda in a crash in Co Donegal last month.

A man has been remanded in custody charged in connection with the death of a garda in a crash in Co Donegal last month.

Martin McDermott (24) from Castlegrove, Raphoe, is charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of Garda Gary McLoughlin at Lisfannon, Burt, on December 13th.

Garda McLoughlin (24), from Fenagh, Co Leitrim, died in Letterkenny General Hospital after his patrol car was involved in a collision with another car on that date.

Mr McDermott made a brief appearance before Judge Geoffrey Browne at Harristown District Court today where he was remanded to appear before the same court on February 12th.

Mr McDermott did not speak during the brief appearance but Inspector Joe McKenna said the defendant was agreeing to the remand by consent.
