A 32-year old Ennis man appeared in court today charged in connection with the stabbing of a 29-year old Filipino waitress at an Ennis hotel last night.
Tommy Dormer of Ashfield Park, Gort Rd, Ennis appeared before Ennistymon District Court charged with assaulting Mia Buena at the Auburn Lodge hotel contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, The court heard that after he was formally cautioned, Mr Dormer responded: "I'm sorry for what I have done."
Mr Dormer's solicitor consented to a Garda application that his client be remanded in custody to Limerick Prison to this Friday's sitting of Ennis District Court.
But he asked that as a matter of urgency, Mr Dormer receive care from a psychiatrist at Limerick prison.
The court was told the defendant has been in receipt of psychiatric care and that it was important this continue while he is in custody.
Judge Joseph Mangan granted legal aid and remanded Mr Dormer in custody until Friday. The judge said he would make the recommendations to the prison authorities requested by the defence.
