A man freed last week after a judge found there was an undue delay by the DPP in preparing the case against him has appeared in court charged with murder.
Gregory Conway (36), of no fixed abode, appeared before the Bridewell District Court charged with the murder of Liam Maguire (43) in Dundalk, Co Louth, last June.
Mr Conway was freed from custody last week as a sitting of Clover Hill District Court because the DPP had failed to properly prepare the book of evidence on time.
Det Sgt John Brady told the court he arrested and cautioned Mr Conway at 9.40pm last night on Jervis Street in Dublin city centre. At 10.40pm in Store Street Garda Station he was charged with murder.
Det Sgt Brady said Mr Conway said he understood the charge but made no reply.
Mr Conway's solicitor said he intends to plead not guilty against the identical charge. He said his client had no intention of fleeing the jurisdiction.
The body of Mr Maguire was found at his home in Castletown Road, Dundalk, last June. He had suffered multiple injuries.
Judge Cormac Dunne remanded him in custody to appear before Clover Hill District Court at 10.30am on September 28th.
