Police have released a man they were questioning about the murder of a schoolboy in Belfast more than 30 years ago.

Brian McDermott (10) went missing from a playground in Ormeau Park in September 1973. His mutilated body was found in the River Lagan almost a week later.

A man (46) was arrested in England on Monday and taken to Northern Ireland for questioning. It is believed he lived close to where the boy went missing.

His arrested followed a reconstruction on BBC's Crimewatchprogramme.

Police said this morning the man was released from police custody and a file was being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
