One man in his thirties has been released from custody after being questioned by gardai over an assault which left a man with serious head injuries.

The injured man, who was reportedly hit over the head with a television set last night, is being treated in St James's Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

Two Dublin men were arrested following the incident. A 31-year-old was released this afternoon and a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecution.

A 32-year-old man remains in custody at Kilmainham Garda Station.
