Man receives fractured skull in Belfast attack

A man is severely ill in hospital this morning after he was beaten by two masked men in his south Belfast home last night.

A man is severely ill in hospital this morning after he was beaten by two masked men in his south Belfast home last night.

The 34-year-old was watching television with his 16-year-old nephew when the attack happened at Torr Way near the Upper Lisburn Road.

Two masked men dressed in dark clothing burst into the house wielding baseball bats at 11.30 p.m. The 16-year-old suffered an injury to his left arm, a police spokeswoman said.

His uncle suffered a fractured skull, a broken arm, severe bruising to the head and an injury to his left eye.

Police are said to be keeping an "open mind" on the motive for the attack and have asked those with information to come forward.
