Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in Limerick at midnight on Wednesday. They are also investigating the firing of shots in the Thomondgate area around the same time.
The woman was Mrs Kathleen Quilligan, a mother of 10, of Canon Breen Park, Thomondgate.
A man is being questioned under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in connection with the shooting.
Gardai said Mrs Quilligan collapsed following a disturbance at a nearby house in which the front door panel was kicked in. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Limerick regional hospital.
