The Garda in Co Meath are questioning a Northern Ireland man after cannabis resin worth €2.5m was seized during a search of a lorry today.

The lorry was stopped at Newtown Commons on the main Dublin to Derry road south of Ashbourne at 12 noon today by members of the National Drugs Unit.

Around 200 kilos of cannabis resin was found hidden amongst cases of wine.

A 30-year-old man is being questioned by Gardaí under Section Two of the Drug Trafficking Act at Ashbourne, where he can be held for up to seven days.
