Man pleads not guilty to murder of Swiss teenager

HANS-PETER and Arlette Riedo (pictured) leave the Four Courts in Dublin yesterday, where the trial of a 28-year-old man accused of murdering their daughter, Swiss teenager Manuela Riedo, in Galway two years ago will begin this morning at the Central Criminal Court.

Gerald Barry, of Rosan Glas, Rahoon, Galway, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Ms Riedo (17) at Lough Atalia, Renmore, Galway, on October 8th, 2007. He also pleaded not guilty to the further charges of stealing a camera and a mobile phone at the same place on the same date. A jury of six men and six women has been sworn in for the trial, which is expected to last from two to three weeks.
