Man killed in explosion at Cavan dairy

A man has died and another has been seriously injured in an explosion at a dairy in Killeshandra, Co Cavan.

A man has died and another has been seriously injured in an explosion at a dairy in Killeshandra, Co Cavan.

The explosion happened at about midday at Lakeland Dairies in the town.

A spokesman for the company confirmed the explosion occured during "routine contract maintenance on a boiler".

The injured man has been taken to Cavan General Hospital with what are understood to be facial burns.

The company expressed its condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased, in a statement issued this afternoon.

They also said an investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.

There were no other injuries and neither of the men employees of Lakeland Dairies.
