THE young Galway man who died at the weekend with his girlfriend when exhaust fumes accidentally leaked into the car in which they were sitting was buried yesterday.

Mr Thomas Fleming (19), of Gortnadieve, Creggs, was laid to rest in nearby Glenamaddy yesterday, after a Requiem Mass celebrated by Father Michael Goaley, the parish priest. Prayers were offered at the Mass for Mr Fleming's 17 year old girlfriend, Margaret Mitchell, from Carrowneeney, Williamstown, who died with him in the car on Friday. She will be buried this morning at Williamstown. A post mortem confirmed yesterday that the young couple died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Gardai believe they suffocated accidentally after they were overcome by fumes in the 10 year old car, which was left with its engine running and its heater on.
