A man aged in his late 20s is still being held in connection with an incident last night in which two men - one of whom was a garda - were stabbed.
The man was arrested yesterday evening following the incident which occurred in Raheny, Dublin, at about 6pm.
A man, his partner and their child were in St Anne's Park when he was attacked without provocation by another man with a broken bottle. The victim sustained minor injuries in the attack.
A short time later a garda approached a man on nearby Main Street and was also attacked. He suffered injuries to his eye and was taken to Beaumont hospital but has since been released.
The man arrested last night is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Raheny Garda station and can be held for a maximum of 24 hours.
“There is no doubt that the officer involved in this incident must be commended for his bravery in his attempt to deal with the situation. I wish him a full recovery,” said Labour’s newly elected TD for Dublin North Central Aodhán Ó Ríordáin.
