The woman was attacked and sexually assaulted in the Turrets area of Charleville as she was walking home from a bingo session at about 10.15pm on Sunday.

She had seen the man standing on the roadway and had passed him by when he came up behind her and hit her on the back of the head and dragged her into the driveway of a private house. She was beaten and sexually assaulted at the back of the house.

Early this morning, gardaí arrested a 21-year-old man in the Charleville area. He is being held at Mallow Garda station where he is being questioned under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
