Have-a-go-heroes detained a man today after a car was stolen with a terrified woman sitting in the passenger seat.
The woman was waiting in the car at a filling station in Fortwilliam Park in north Belfast when a man jumped behind the wheel and drove off.
The frantic woman managed to attract the attention of people in the street and when the car thief attempted to abandon the vehicle a short distance away on the Somerton Road they restrained him until police arrived.
A police spokeswoman said a 22-year-man had been arrested and was being questioned about the incident.
