Man for court over death of homeless man

A man is to appear in court today charged in relation to the death of a homeless man in Dublin on Monday night.

A man is to appear in court today charged in relation to the death of a homeless man in Dublin on Monday night.

Mr Martin Reilly (56), originally from Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, died in St James's Hospital from injuries received in an incident at Island Street shortly before midnight on Monday.

Two people, a 25-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, were arrested by gardaí at 6 a.m. yesterday. They were questioned at Kevin Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The man was later charged under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act in relation to Mr Reilly's death and is due to appear before Kilmainham District Court today.

The woman was released without charge, and a file is being prepared on her for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
