A MAN has returned voluntarily from England to face a charge of manslaughter arising from the death of Mr Christopher O'Driscoll in Cork two years ago.

The dead man's brother, Mr Michael O'Driscoll, caused disruption at the Cork District Court hearing yesterday and was remanded in custody for a week.

The court was told gardai had always known the whereabouts of the accused man, Mr Alan Quilligan, of Immal Flats, Blackpool, Cork, and he agreed to return voluntarily to face the unlawful killing charge.

He was released on his own bail of Pounds 500 and an independent surety of Pounds 200 to appear again in court on October 7th.

Mr Christopher O'Driscoll was, killed near Immal Flats on April 5th, 1995.

The accused man's solicitor, Mr Donal Daly, said Mr Quilligan and members of his family were in Britain because they feared for their safety.

The accused man was further charged with using or threatening to use unlawful violence that would have caused a person to fear for their safety.

Five other members of the Quilligan family were also in court. Three of them, Susan, Trevor and Christopher jnr, were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to Ms Ellen Scannel at Immal Flats on April 5th, 1995.

David and Kathleen Quilligan were charged with committing violent disorder. All five were released on bail of Pounds 500 and are due to appear before Cork District Court next October 7th.
