The victim of a fatal stabbing in Dublin city overnight has been named while another man is to appear in court tomorrow a charge of manslaughter arising from the incident.

The 57-year-old man found dead in his flat by Gardaí last night has been named as Mr John Waters of Oliver Bond House off Thomas Street in the south inner city.

A post mortem carried out by the deputy State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, confirmed Mr Waters died of stab wounds.

A Garda spokeswoman said the incident took place sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight. The man died at the scene, having suffered a severe stab wounds.

A 29-year-old man was later detained and taken to Kevin St Garda Station for questioning in relation to the incident. He is due before Dublin District Court tomorrow morning on a charge of manslaughter.
