A 53-year old single man died in a house fire in Co Kilkenny this morning.

A 53-year old single man died in a house fire in Co Kilkenny this morning.

Neighbours raised the alarm after smoke was seen coming from his house in the village of Freshford, eight miles from Kilkenny city, at around 7.40 a.m.

The man who has been named as Mr Martin Chandley. He was found in the upstairs hallway of the house.

His body was taken to St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny and later transferred to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post mortem examination.

Gardai say foul play is not suspected.
