Man dies in house fire in Monaghan

A man in his 50s died yesterday in a fire at his home in Co Monaghan

A man in his 50s died yesterday in a fire at his home in Co Monaghan. He was named locally as Oliver McCourt, who lived at Falkland Bridge, near the north Monaghan village of Glaslough.

Mr McCourt's home was destroyed in the fire, which broke out yesterday morning. Fire services from Monaghan town were called to the scene shortly before 11am and battled the blaze in heavy snow and high winds.

His body was removed to Cavan General Hospital, where a postmortem was due to be carried out.
