A man has died after entering the Royal Canal in Dublin and another man, who entered the canal in a separate incident, is recovering in hospital.

In the first incident gardaí came across Dublin Fire Brigade attempting to rescue a man at Binn’s Bridge in the city at 3.30 a.m. One Garda pulled the man from the water.

Both were taken to the Mater Hospital where the man later died. The Garda is suffering from hypothermia. The deceased has not yet been named.

In a separate incident, a man is recovering in the Mater hospial after been taken from the Royal Canal by Dublin Fire Brigade Ambulance personnel in Phibsboro. This incident occurred at 6 a.m.
