Man denies eight charges of attempted murder

A 41-year-old man today denied eight charges of attempted murder at Laganside Magistrates Court in Belfast.

A 41-year-old man today denied eight charges of attempted murder at Laganside Magistrates Court in Belfast.

The accused, Mr Christopher Boyle, from Mountforde Drive, in east Belfast, was in court on charges relating to an incident in Belfast on July 7th when shots were fired from a car.

Mr Boyle was charged with the attempted murder of Mr Paul Kennedy, Ms Mary Kennedy, Mr Joseph Kennedy, Ms Carol McManus, Ms Jean Kennedy, Ms Michelle Cooper, Mr Joseph Henry and Mr Karl McCarten.

A detective told the Magistrates Court that when Mr Boyle was charged he replied: "They are notorious drug dealers and have a lot of enemies. I did not try to kill anyone."

He is due back in court again on September 23rd.

It is understood police have still not recovered the car and gun used in the shooting which happened as a group of adults and children were standing outside No 11 Cooke Street.

Police later recovered five spent 9 mm rounds on the roadway.
