Two men were injured, one of them seriously, after a minibus taxi was hijacked in the west of Dublin and crashed.

Gardai said six men were picked up by a driver at about 2am in Inchicore village and were being driven towards the city when a fight broke out between two of them.

The taxi man pulled over and removed the pair from his cab but as he was doing so one of the other men stole the cab. The hijacked minibus then made off towards Ballyfermot and crashed at the junction of Cherry Orchard Avenue and Croftwood Crescent.

Gardai said the driver appeared to lose control of the taxi and it overturned. Two men in their early 20s were taken to St James's Hospital.
