A 19-year-old youth appeared before a special court sitting in Limerick last night charged with the murder of a young man in the city last week.
Kenneth Collopy, Kilonan, Ballysimon, Co Limerick, is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Daniel Fitzgerald at Cloughnadromin, Ballysimon, Co Limerick on December 8th last.
The 24-year-old capenter died after he was shot at a house on the main Limerick to Tipperary Road, last Tueday night.
There was a large garda presence for last night’s brief court hearing at Limerick District Court.
Detective Garda Dave Nolan gave evidence of arresting and formally charging the accused at 9.15pm last night at Roxboro Garda station.
The court heard the teenager made no reply to the charge.
Defence solicitor John Herbert was assigned to represent Mr Collopy who was granted free legal aid.
Judge Aeneas McCarthy remanded the 19-year-old in custody to Limerick prison until December 17th next when he is due to appear before the same court via video link.
Dressed in a blue and red hooded top Mr Collopy didn’t speak during the 90 second hearing but acknowleged relatives who were present in the court room afterwards.
