A 37-year-old Cork man has been charged with the sexual assault of a French tourist. The charges relate to an attack on a tourist in her 20s by a man who posed as a taxi-driver, on the morning of September 7th, 2000.

The woman had called a taxi to take her to Cork Airport for her return flight to Paris. A man in a stolen taxi picked the woman up near Jury's Hotel in Lancaster Quay, Cork. He took her to a secluded area on the Kinsale Road where she was sexually assaulted and threatened with a screwdriver.

Judge Uinsin Mac Gruairc remanded the man in custody with consent to bail. The man is to appear again at Cork District Court on July 11th.
