A man has been charged over the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old in Dublin on New Year's Day.

A man has been charged over the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old in Dublin on New Year's Day.

Carl Breen (25), of Kearns Court, Kilmainham, Dublin 8, has been charged with assault causing serious harm to Martin McLoughlin last Sunday.

Martin McLoughlin from Cherrywood Park in Clondalkin died following an incident at Jury's Hotel, close to Croke Park at 4am on January 1st.

He was discovered with a chest wound and rushed to the intensive care unit of Dublin's Mater Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery, before dying at around 7am.
