A 23-year-old man appeared before a special sitting of the Galway District Court today in relation to the serious assault of a man in the city yesterday morning.

The man was charged under section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act to appear again at Galway District Court on January 4th.

The victim (28) was attacked in Galway city centre and suffered serious injuries to his head and face.

The beating took place at about 3.25am at the junction of Upper Dominick Street, Henry Street and William Street West.

The injured man was transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

Gardaí appealed for witnesses who were in the area around the time of the attack to come forward.
