A young man due for sentencing for the manslaughter of his mother was granted bail over the Christmas period and has had his sentencing adjourned.

Damien Donnon (21) was convicted of strangling his mother, Jennifer Donnan, at the family home at De Valera Park, Thomondgate, Limerick on April 17th, 2000.

During the trial the court heard that Mr Donnon was psychologically disturbed.

Mr Justice Carney has ordered a health board to come up with a suitable treatment programme.

In the Central Criminal Court, the court granted bail for 14 nights beginning on December 23rd. Mr Donnon is due back before the court on February 28th.
