Insp Conor Madden asked Judge Geoffrey Browne that Mr Barry be remanded in custody for another two weeks.

However defence solicitor Alan Gannon asked that gardaí go into evidence as his client had been in custody since October 19th.

The court was told by Det Garda Tony Reidy that the investigation was 80 per cent forensics-based and that the Forensic Science Laboratory had informed them that a report would be completed in the next week.

He said that the Garda investigation was under 31 headings, 27 of which were completed.

Det Garda Reidy said the other four headings could not be completed until they received the forensic reports.

He said that it was expected that a file would go to the DPP a week after the forensic reports were received.

Judge Browne acceded to the Garda application for a two-week remand in custody.

Mr Barry will next appear at Harristown District Court on February 1st.
