A Dublin man was charged last night with the murder of Mr Anthony "Chester" Beatty, the criminal figure shot in a city centre public house at the weekend.

Mr Martin Comerford (35), of Tom Kelly Road, Dublin, was charged before Dublin District Court and was remanded in custody for a week.

Mr Beatty (39) was shot dead while drinking in the upstairs lounge of a public house in Mary Street on Sunday night. He was struck by a number of bullets fired from a .22 pistol, which was recovered at the scene.
