A man charged with the murder of a Co Galway farmer, Mr Tommy Casey (68), more than four years ago, was further remanded in custody when he appeared before Galway District Court yesterday.

Mr Patrick O'Connor (36), of Poulboy, Kilgainey, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, denies murdering Mr Casey.

Mr O'Connor was extradited from England in September 1998 in relation to other offences. He was further charged last March with the murder of Mr Casey on a date unknown between January 15th and 23rd, 1996.

He was also charged with breaking into Mr Casey's house and falsely imprisoning him.

Judge Michael Connellan remanded Mr O'Connor in custody to Limerick Prison to appear before Galway District Court again on September 9th.
