A man (79) died and a woman in her 60s was injured after a collision on the Dublin-to-Sligo road near Edgeworthstown, Co Longford today.

The crash happened at about 5.20pm when the camper van the man was driving collided with a lorry.

The man’s body was removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar for a postmortem. The woman, a passenger in the camper van, was also taken to hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

The N4 at Lisfarrell between Longford town and Edgeworthstown was closed for a time for Garda forensic examination.
