A Co Tyrone man (65) has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing near Omagh on Saturday evening.

Mr John McKune, of Windsor Terrace, Coagh, Cookstown, was accused at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court of attempting to murder his neighbour, Mr Robert Stewart (46), on Saturday.

A detective constable told the court that Mr McKune, in reply to the charge, said: "I had no intention to murder anybody. I only took the knife up because I knew he had one."

Mr McKune was remanded in custody to appear at East Tyrone Magistrate's Court by video link on January 14th.

The injured man is said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

A second man was also arrested for allegedly withholding information and has now been freed on bail.
