A 21-YEAR-OLD Moroccan man appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court last night charged with the murder of a 17-year-old Somalian man at a hostel in the city over the weekend.

The victim, who had also been living at the address, died from stab injuries following an incident at the hostel for asylum seekers on Saturday afternoon.

Defence solicitor Chris Lynch was assigned to represent Mr Redouane who wept as he was being brought into court and also during the brief hearing.

An interpreter was present for the proceedings but Mr Lynch asked that an Arabic interpreter be present on the next occasion.

Mr Lynch told the court that his client was an asylum seeker who had no source of income. Free legal aid was granted.

The court also heard that Mr Roudaune had an injury, which his solicitor said was "not serious". Judge Aeneas McCarthy ordered that he receive all appropriate medical attention.

Judge McCarthy remanded him in custody until December 30th.
